Spicy Garlic Ginger Shrimp
Most of you reading this post probably don’t know me from my old blog, The Fitchen. But before I started this new little project, that’s where I was cooking, blogging, and taking pictures from 2012-2020. A few *major life changes* happened in 2020 (to say the least), so I took some time off.
As I’m gradually building this new site, I’ve been revisiting some of my favorite old recipes from The Fitchen. Giving them a little revamp and some fresh life. This spicy garlic ginger shrimp is one of those recipes. It’s been one of my favorites since the very first time I tested it. Every once in a while, you just knock one out of the park. 😉
What’s So Special About This Spicy Garlic Ginger Shrimp?
I’m a big seafood girly. You’ll find that out soon enough if you stick around for any time at all. I don’t think I can pick one “favorite” type of seafood, but it’s definitely my favorite to cook at home. This marinade will absolutely knock your socks off and make a shrimp lover out of anyone.
The only way you can mess this up is by overcooking it. All we need is a quick kiss in the skillet on both sides. Then we’re enjoying the juicy, tender spicy garlic ginger shrimp of your dreams. This is the kind of thing you may or may not eat directly out of the pan.
We’re Making This On Repeat All Summer…
No one likes to spend a ton of time in the kitchen when it’s beautiful outside. So I keep a few reliable recipes in my back pocket for days such as that. And this spicy garlic ginger shrimp is one of the winners. It’s on the table in under 20 minutes, whether you cook inside or on the grill. I genuinely can’t choose between which way I prefer to cook/eat it. The shrimp is unbeatable either way.
Enjoy it by itself as an appetizer, serve it with some tender-crisp veggies, or over a bed of rice. And be ready to add it to your weekly roster – it’s addicting.

Spicy Garlic Ginger Shrimp
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup green onion finely chopped (plus more for garnish)
- 1 pound shrimp peeled and de-veined
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 1 inch knob of ginger freshly grated
- 3 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. honey
- 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
- Optional for garnish: lime sesame seeds, fresh green onion
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, honey, and red pepper flakes. Stir these together to form a flavorful marinade that will infuse the shrimp with spicy, tangy, and sweet notes.
- Marinate the Shrimp: Toss the shrimp in the marinade and let them sit for at least 10 minutes. This short marination time is enough to let the flavors meld without overpowering the delicate shrimp.
- Cook The Shrimp: Heat olive oil to medium-high in a large skillet. Once hot, add the marinated shrimp, discarding any excess marinade. Cook the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are pink and cooked through. Be careful not to overcook to keep them juicy and tender.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Garnish with fresh green olives, sesame seeds, or lime juice. Enjoy them a la carte or with rice!
